Elizabeth was, and is a highly respected physiotherapist and John had an engineering background, which meant that together they developed the first postural control, adjustable lounge chair.</p> <p>They started to market the product and eventually sold their company to an organisation called Shanning who then produced the SPA Mk II, based upon the original design with a number of enhancements. At this point there were a number of companies who developed similar versions of an adjustable lounge chair. </p> <p>Shanning were later purchased by RBF Products who then enhanced the chair design further adding a tilt in space option and making all of its many adjustments  hand operated,  without the need for special tools. The chair was renamed the SPA 2000 but still remains the original lounge chair with many imitators but few betters.</font></td> <td width="39%" valign="top"> <img src="images/20001.jpg" alt="2000(1).jpg (119929 bytes)" width="203" height="138"></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="61%"><font FACE="Arial"><b> <p>The Product</p></b> <p>The SPA chair is constructed around a rigid black finished tubular metal frame with four main areas. These are the back, the seat, the arms and the base frame together with legs. The solid construction of the chair means that it is designed to take a great deal of stress. The chair is easy to manoeuvre on its four 100mm castors, especially across carpet. The foam and cushion fillings are all flame retardant and comply with the BS5852 part 2 ignitability test. The chair is available in a choice of 8 standard colours of Velicren material, which is flame retardant, removable and washable. The chair has most of its adjustment points of a similar style for ease of use and familiarity and is situated in convenient locations. </font></td> <td width="39%"><p align="center"> <img src="images/20002b.jpg" alt="2000(2b).jpg (9170 bytes)" width="150" height="220"></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="61%"><font FACE="Arial"><b>What The SPA 2000 Is Capable Of</b><p>The SPA 2000 chair is capable of adjusting in many planes to provide postural support for users who need to be seated for long periods of time in comfort. The adjustments can be made to gently but firmly encapsulate the user so that their posture is improved, something that a standard armchair is unable to achieve.</p> <p>The adjustments are all hand controlled and do not need special tools. The chairs are assessed with the patient and the details passed to the factory. The chairs are supplied already set up to the patient profile as ascertained at the assessment.</p> <p>As each patient has different needs the SPA 2000 can be adapted at the factory to include any special modifications that may be required.
